Paint is definitely your most cost-effective option. Drywall is not cheap, and while it isn't complicated, it also isn't easy if you've never done it before. Fabric will be expensive also, even at discount prices.

My mom lives in a mobile home, and her best method for covering the paneling has been to prime first with Kilz or B.I.N. before painting. Either of these primers will work well to get paint to stick to that paneling. If you really want to get rid of the "lines" from the paneling, you could spackle them in and sand, prior to painting. My mom has done this and it looks very good, nice and smooth.

I think cork board on one wall is a great idea. Especially for a teenager, so he/she can hang pictures, posters, etc. and have the freedom to change it up frequently without ruining the walls or paint.

Best of luck!
Reply:I would paint over it and then just get some nice accent pieces. fabric will definitely cost a lot, a steal on fabric is close to $2 a yard, so a full bedroom is going to run you a lot more than a bucket or two of paint.
Reply:You can paint over paneling but fabric is a nice idea too. You can tie in the wall fabric to what you use for the bedspread. It could be really nice.
Reply:Keep in mind that fabric can be very dangerous to have on walls if there is a fire in the mobile home. Why not cover the existing ugly stuff with cool posters over white paper just stapled to the wall and trimmed with some kind of narrow ribbon or rickrack.
