Sparrows keep flying against the outside of my house. In all weather, except rain and storms. But never before this month and I%26#039;ve lived here 11 years. Its been going on for about three weeks. They just hover to the aluminum siding and begin slamming into it. They are never hurt but they do it over and over again from sun up till sun down, never accomplishing anything apparent. They are doing this where there are no windows. I can see them through a different part of the house, through my patio windows. What would make them behave in this manner? There is nothing on these walls, no special flowers or plants. There is no nest anywhere that I can see and the grass is very short, as we mow every few days. Any thoughts on why these birds would behave this way?
Why are the birds doing this?
They are more than likely picking off insects. If they have never done this before you might want to inspect the area and make sure there are no termite or ant colonies breeding underneath the siding.
Reply:I think they are part of a terrorist plot. The birds are obviously martyrs trying to destroy your home little by little.
Reply:Perhaps there are some sort of small bugs in this area that they are feeding on. It does seem like a somewhat odd thing. Perhaps you should contact your local ag-extension agent.
Reply:Are there any nests in your gutters? That might be an answer. Another possibility is that they%26#039;re eating the little flying gnats and that hang around. The bugs are probably sticking close to your siding because it%26#039;s warm. Have you ever walked out of your house and seen flies on your siding? That%26#039;s the only explanation I can come up with. As to why they just started, I don%26#039;t know. Like I said earlier, maybe there are nests in your gutters. Try putting ornamental owls out around your house. Owls are natural predators of smaller birds. You can find the owls at Lowe%26#039;s or Wal Mart or any place that has a home and garden center. We had a problem with barn swallows last year. We put out the owl, the birds did not come around. Hope this helps.
Reply:have you ever seen the movie %26quot;the birds?%26quot;
Reply:Maybe they have a bunch of freshly hatched and hungry sparrow babies at home yelling and crying at them all day, and they just like to ram their little heads into your wall, thinking what the hell did I get myself into? I thought it was just a little fling...stupid! Stupid! Stupid!
