Do they still write poetry like this these days?

Oscar Wilde (1854–1900). Poems. 1881.

38. In the Gold Room: a Harmony

HER ivory hands on the ivory keys

Strayed in a fitful fantasy,

Like the silver gleam when the poplar trees

Rustle their pale leaves listlessly,

Or the drifting foam of a restless sea

When the waves show their teeth in the flying breeze.

Her gold hair fell on the wall of gold

Like the delicate gossamer tangles spun

On the burnished disk of the marigold,

Or the sun-flower turning to meet the sun

When the gloom of the jealous night is done,

And the spear of the lily is aureoled.

And her sweet red lips on these lips of mine

Burned like the ruby fire set

In the swinging lamp of a crimson shrine,

Or the bleeding wounds of the pomegranate,

Or the heart of the lotus drenched and wet

With the spilt-out blood of the rose-red wine.

Do they still write poetry like this these days?
sounds like porn to me

Oscar Wilde was gay I think

Great!! 10/10
Reply:I sort of do poetry, here's one of mine:

Gudfar had hoped for another visit from Odin for the funeral, but somehow the magic seemed to have departed with Halfdan. Gudfar noticed an old scruffy raven that flew down and perched in a tree. It seemed to be in attendance on the funeral ceremony. He thought that maybe it was a sign from Odin but he was not sure. The raven sat there in the tree all day. After the death ritual was over, and the all-night drinking party at Stein Hall was at an end, Gudfar went out to get some fresh air early in the morning. It was still dark out. He was surprised to see the big old raven still sitting in the tree. He called to it, now thinking that perhaps it was indeed a sign. “Oooooooooodin,” he called softly to the strange bird. It just sat there in the tree. Disappointed, Gudfar turned to go back inside Stein Hall. Just as he turned his back on the bird, he heard the flapping of wings. He turned around to see the raven heading right for him. He waited. The raven landed on the steps above Gudfar. It ****** its head from side to side like birds do. Its eyes glittered strangely.

“Do you have something to say to me old friend?” asked Gudfar with amusement.

The raven flew right at him, and landed on his right shoulder. It sat there silently facing forward, as if it were looking at what Gudfar was looking at. Gudfar remained quiet, waiting. After a few minutes the old bird leaned close to Gudfar’s ear, and plainly said, “Glemme Ne, Gudfar.”

Gudfar turned his head to look at the raven but it had lifted off, and was flying away. As it flew off Gudfar heard it say again, “Glemme Ne, Gudfar, “Glemme Ne.” (Forget not)

Odin had come after all. He decided to tell no one but his wife Freydis.

During the days after the funeral, everyone relied on Gudfar and Olaf for comfort. Harald was especially lost, and he stayed close to Bjorn and the old wizard. The boy was now king after his father. And as had been agreed upon beforehand, Guthorm would rule as Harald’s regent until Halfdan’s son was old enough to rule on his own. No one else ever found out who Gudfar really was. Halfdan was missed sorely, and his people remembered him always. All of his devoted warriors swore their undying loyalty to his son of the noble blood, King Harald Halfdansson.

And now I have come to the end of my story since there is nothing more to say. It was indeed true that when Halfdan passed out of this life, much of the magic went with him. I, who was once Gudfar in a past life long ago, have now fulfilled my solemn promise to my king and brother. I remember him well. There has never been anyone like Halfdan the Black, either before or since. Forgive me if I have left anything out or gotten anything wrong. It has after all been a very long time.

Harald went on to become a famous and powerful king in his own right but that is another story for another time. As you may have guessed, I’ve promised to tell his story too. May the Great Spirit Overlord assist me.

May Odin the All-Father bless and keep you always.

Until next time, I bid you SKOAL!

From Halfdan the Black

I'm trying to find marble sculptor artist, name Steve Heim/Steve Hein, featured Laguna Festival Arts early 80s

I have tried every key word search in Google without luck. The marble sculpture I have is really unique flower-stem, made up of 4 pieces, large and really heavy, to be hung on a wall. Thanks, John

Help with my Lawn!?

Okay, so me and my wife have been trying to sell our house. We're getting it prepared on the inside, repairing nicks and crannies, painting, putting tile in, and repairing the bathrooms.

But we think the most important thing is the lawn, being the first thing the buyer would see. If they don't get a good impression, they most likely won't go in, right? So we were trying to think of some flowers, or other plants to put in out lawn. We made the sketch, which is shown below, of our front yard. Our nieghbors have very well maintained, goregous and vibrant colored lawns during the summer and spring, and that will also decrease the chances of our buying going in, if he or she compares our yard to our neighbors. So, what type of flowers would go well in our stone wall area (on the sketch)?

the sketch:

We live in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Our ave. temp. in summer/spring-about 75.

Our yard gets abundant sun.

Help with my Lawn!?
I have read that a house with yellow flowers will statistically sell faster than one without yellow flowers. I have no idea why.

If you want to go with that, I recommend getting some landscape-sized black-eyed Susans (rudbekia) to plant around. They flower vigorously, and without stopping from July through frost. And they love sun, and are nearly fuss-free. It will be May before you'll find those available, though.

If you're going to be taking a picture of your house in the spring (before summer flowers are out), go and see what is available in flower (annuals) at your local nursery or garden center, and pick some stuff out that looks good to plant before your picture is taken. The annuals should begin arriving in your area very soon. Primrose and pansies (frost-tolerant flowers) are showing up in garden centers in your area in March, with LOTS of the rest of them coming in April.

Pots of flowers on the porch can help "fancy" it up as well.
Reply:for spring plantings i would plant pansies, inpatients, and ornamental cabbages. this would give you from purples, to red/pinks to yellow and green. the cabbages are very colorful and help add some "pop" to a flower garden. tip: do not space your flowers/plantings evenly. you will find that clusters and random placement will give your plants a focal point and will also make the area look larger

We want to remodel my teens room but......?

we live in a moble home and it has ugly panleing and flowered pringd on the reast of the wall painting over this in cot a opion,we coulf tear it out and sheetrock but that is wat to costly and we have never done it, WEwere thinking od covering the walls with fabric and cork board so any help or suggestions would be great.

We want to remodel my teens room but......?
Paint is definitely your most cost-effective option. Drywall is not cheap, and while it isn't complicated, it also isn't easy if you've never done it before. Fabric will be expensive also, even at discount prices.

My mom lives in a mobile home, and her best method for covering the paneling has been to prime first with Kilz or B.I.N. before painting. Either of these primers will work well to get paint to stick to that paneling. If you really want to get rid of the "lines" from the paneling, you could spackle them in and sand, prior to painting. My mom has done this and it looks very good, nice and smooth.

I think cork board on one wall is a great idea. Especially for a teenager, so he/she can hang pictures, posters, etc. and have the freedom to change it up frequently without ruining the walls or paint.

Best of luck!
Reply:I would paint over it and then just get some nice accent pieces. fabric will definitely cost a lot, a steal on fabric is close to $2 a yard, so a full bedroom is going to run you a lot more than a bucket or two of paint.
Reply:You can paint over paneling but fabric is a nice idea too. You can tie in the wall fabric to what you use for the bedspread. It could be really nice.
Reply:Keep in mind that fabric can be very dangerous to have on walls if there is a fire in the mobile home. Why not cover the existing ugly stuff with cool posters over white paper just stapled to the wall and trimmed with some kind of narrow ribbon or rickrack.

Would you Be Upset if Someone took Flowers from Your Loved?

ones grave? They were two handmade silk flowers, and pretty too. I put two of them in the vase, and I came the next day and 1 was missing. And then I came the following week, and the second one gone. Someone threw it near a wall far below and crushed it in their hand because it was wrecked. Why would someone do this?

Would you Be Upset if Someone took Flowers from Your Loved?
Sounds like they have some unresolved issues over the loss of someone close to them.

Do not worry or let it change the way you are. Continue to bring flowers in remembrance of your loved ones.

You may also include those who wrecked the flowers in your prayers that they find peace.
Reply:That's an ugly thing to do because it's bound to hurt someone's feelings.

On the other hand I wouldn't put flowers at a loved one's grave in the first place. What do they want with flowers? They don't even know they're there. The person isn't at the grave any more, just the body is - the former occupant has moved out. It actually always reminded me of the Egyptians burying their dead with family and pets and treasure and food and servants and so on so they would have it in the next life.

I understand though that it's not so much for the deceased as for the griever, so they can feel like they're doing something nice for their loved ones, honoring their memory and such. But be consoled that your loved one isn't bummed somewhere about the flowers being messed with, even if it was a rotten thing to do.
Reply:How awful! Sadly, there are terrible people in this world who have no respect for others.

Replace the silk flowers and keep your chin up. :)
Reply:people sometimes take their children to the cemeteries, and do not supervise them. They allow their brats to do whatever they want. I think it is a despicable discourtesy to the families of the deceased.
Reply:Yes, but cemetery's can after they have been there so long.
Reply:OMG I would be so upset, how can people not have respect for the deceased? People may think it is funny to vandalize grave yards but how uncaring can a human being be? In my opinion that is almost as bad as stone tipping.
Reply:I'm so sorry that happened and I would tell the graveyard staff. Someone who would steal off a grave is a very low piece of scum. Hopefully karma will take care of them.
Reply:How Sad ! This kind of stuff is so sad, I think that the people who do this is heartless.

I'm so sorry, I wish I could do something to make you feel better, I know just how you feel. It makes one feel like they %26amp; there loved ones have been violated in some way.

Maybe if you report it to the place where it happened they will do something, I doubt it, but I would report it none the less.

God Bless and I do wish we could stop this kind of thing.
Reply:i'm sorry that happened, its a sad fact that the world is full of sick people. they do horrible things for no reason and good people pay for it. i wish things were different. i hope that never happens to you again.
Reply:yes i sure would be mad, that was uncalled for.I do not understand why some people are just down right mean...Who ever done this was mean and also a thief, and a grave robber...they should be ashamed!
Reply:This happens more frequently than we realize. It hurts us to know that people can be that cold-hearted.
Reply:Yes i would be upset. I left them there for my loved one in memory of them. Someone must have thought it would be funny to do as a prank...which wasn't a funny prank at all.

I leave things on loveone graves and if they were to be moved or wrecked....i would have to speak to the people in charge of the graveyard.
Reply:Probably bored kids.
Reply:My first thought is 'kids'. There's always some jerk messing up something in a cemetery. It happens all the time and this time it happened to you. Don't let it get to you. People who vandalize cemeteries are scum and they make me pretty angry but there's not much we can do.
Reply:it could have blown away or animals do stuff which is more likely the case, if someone did there not the type of person worth spending your time thinking about and essentially nothing you can really do anyways just be the bigger person and replace them when you need to its for that person anyways, when you start letting the world and the nasty things in it get to you, you become what they are ugly, Kim
Reply:I'm sure they would have the blessings of my beloved mother if someone were to take flowers intended for her. No I would not be upset.
Reply:That is so sad that happened to you people are so cruel these days and they do not care about anybody but themselves. next time do not put anything by there grave just go to it and just pray for there way to God.I just put fake flowers because someone will come and destroy something because they do not care.

Redecorating room!!!!?

i am 17.

my room is fairly small.

it is light purple.

i want a more mature looking room.

currently it has a bunch of flower and butterfly stuff. (which i am getting rid of.)

i love my bedspread. (white with purple, blue, gold flower like down the middle -not kiddy. its more mature)

i have a few "vintage" stuff like a purple little mirror and one of those purple mirror trays and a decorative box. and a nice dark wood jewlery box.)

i was wondering do you think my room would look good if i paint one wall dark/bright purple and the other three white with that purple stripes (not small and together but rather large and apart)???

about how much paint would i need?? and about how much would it cost???

also any good websites for decorative items to make my room look more mature??

thanks

Redecorating room!!!!?
Your 17. You should be thinking about what you will grow into, that will make you proud. I wouldhave the accent wall and paint the rest of the walls a earth tone. Just change to an asian theme or something like that.

Take some pictures of things you like and crop them and blow them up to the size you want and keep the decor to a minimum. People get things so over cluttered its really sad.

Go to the book store and look at magazines about decorating and then get a feeling about how you want to go. You want to have a nice place to visit when you are in college.
Reply:I agree on the accent wall, A lavender or plum. the other 3 walls , white.Thats plenty of purple. Pull colors out of you bedspread, blue and white accents. Replace your mirror, and tray with ones in silvertone.measure your floor space ,width by length. When you go to the paint store , give them your measurements. Don't forget to add a plant. It really adds that special touch. JC Penny has some nice curtains. If you room is small, stick to light weight curtains, same color as wall,to make your room look bigger.
Reply:A dark color on 1 wall w/ white on the rest won't look right. Why don't u leave the bottom 1/2 of ypur room the light purple %26amp; paint the top 1/2 the blue or gold color that's in your comforter?

Dark colors make a room look smaller.
Reply:repaint it like a plum purple with black and chrome or silver accents
Reply:ikea.com or ikea.co.uk not sure what one.

its all excellent, and ive got a small room like yours, its dark purple, and im getting new stuff from there that fits it really well.

have a look! or just look at the pictures to get ideas.
Reply:Hang some small framed art will make your small room feel bigger. The brushberry dot com site allow you to preview art work on a virtual wall - you can pick any wall color to match your room. They also have many small black and wite art. Will pretty much go with any decor.

Kitchen Painting Ideas?

I am moving into a house in a few weeks and the kitchen is very very small. The cabinets right now are painted white but have these awful flower stencils on them. I want to repaint the cupboards to cover up the stencils but I Don't want to be as bright as the white is. Any ideas what I can do to make it look more cozy but not super small. Right now one of the walls is a little darker then mint green. I'm thinking of doing a light caramel color on that wall.

Kitchen Painting Ideas?
try going to lowes.com. They have a virtual painter you can use to paint sample rooms (kitchens) with hundreds of colors. You can even paint the cabinets %26amp; see what it'll look like. When you start painting, you'll know exactly how your kitchen will look when you're done.
Reply:once you pick your basic color go one shade lighter on the same swatch. As for the cab. be sure to remove the doors at least and paint them on a flat surface. buy the paint and use the same style brush as they recommend don't skimp on the brush or the paint. spray them if you can. Brush stokes will stay forever and hold finger prints and are a pain to keep clean. spend 5X the amount of time on the cabs. you only want to do this job once. as for the walls there easy to paint and a small space only takes time. Use a primer that will cover oil paints if your not sure what the old paint is. Sherwin Williams pro blocker is the best I have ever used. Always wash all surfaces with TSP and be sure to wash again with just water. you'll find TSp @ Sherwin Williams
Reply:Sounds pretty, but remember the darker you go, the smaller the room will appear. Go over the cabinets with TSP first to clean them. Then prime first. You might consider using a gloss enamel; more durable.
