I%26#039;m 13 (female) and am going to have my room re-painted soon. But what color? There are so many to choose from yet I can%26#039;t find anything that really seems to fit me. See, I went to that %26quot;pbteen.com%26quot; site, and of what I saw, the rooms are like, %26quot;airy, fairy princess land with everything all frilly, pink, or fancy%26quot; or %26quot;bubbly blue and green mixes that are too complex to feel like home%26quot;. I don%26#039;t really like those ideas and have no idea what type of color to use.
I like the idea of a simple but inspiring place for myself. I%26#039;d really like to have one wall black, but my mom is against it (... but maybe I could get it to work...). I also like the deep but not that dark blue colors. I dislike green. I think it would be nice to have some sort of design on a bit of one wall, maybe flowers or a moon and stars.
Anyone have suggestions for me?
Thanks for reading this, by the way. =D
Color issues??
My daughter is also 13 and she would like to have black in her room. She likes red as well. We have comprised by combining the two colors. If you paint your walls a light color, you can either design it a certain way, like with a wallpaper border or even they have out those murals you can put up that look cool or you can put posters all over your room. My daughter%26#039;s room is going to be a combo of black and red, leaning more toward black and that is fine with me. Maybe you can talk to your Mom and explain that if you have a light color on your walls, you can accessorize anyway you want. My daughter has a red chair and also she is getting black chairs for her friends to sit in. Her bedding will also be black. I would say that most of her room is probably going to be more black than red. As long as she is happy, I am fine. Maybe if you sit down with your Mother and discuss that you are getting older and just want a room to reflect you and not want a too girly room, maybe she will understand. We all go through phases in our lives - you will eventually change and decide you want something different. This is not something big to argue over. This is your room.

Reply:Try BHG.com and Lowes.com
There are plenty of ideas for decor, color, and even do it yourself artwork.
I%26#039;m more into the earth tones myself accented with deep reds, yellows, and oranges. Something striking like autumn leaves in the mountains. With a large print of sunflowers???
allposters.com has a great selection of posters that you could frame to use as a focal point of your room. Make the frame from base boards you get at your local hardware type store...Lowes, Home Depot....
Or buy an ugly picture from Walmart that has a nice frame. Take out the picture put it a print that you like, your own artwork, or a poster of some sort. Paint the frame to really stand out.
Look for %26quot;oops%26quot; paint at Walmart, Lowes, Menards, Home Depot to use for your artwork/projects. %26quot;oops%26quot; paint is paint someone didn%26#039;t like after it was mixed. The store can%26#039;t sell it so they price it real cheap. Sometimes you can get a whole gallon of paint for $5 or less. Just make sure that you get a peak at the color when it%26#039;s dried before you buy.
I love %26quot;oops%26quot; paint for art projects with my kids and even when I was decorating the rooms and their bathroom. I%26#039;ve sanded down knick knack cases and painted them to fit the color scheme.
Another fun thing is to get a big stamp from the craft section at Walmart or from the paint section of, say Lowes. Then get the craft paint at Walmart that comes in the small bottles for 50 cents or so. Apply the paint on the stamp with a q-tip and then stamp your walls. ( practice on posterboard until you perfect what you want)
I got a stamp with two flowers, a curly leaf design with small berries from Lowes. I put all my paint choices out on a paper plate. A glob of each all around the plate. I used a fresh q-tip for each color. I applied yellow to the flowers, green to the leaves, cranberry to the berries and then stamped. Press the stamp firmly without wiggling or it will smear. Practice first. The craft paints are cheap and they go a long way.
Hope some of those ideas work for you.
You could always go to Google.com and then put in key phrases like %26quot;bedroom decor ideas%26quot;, %26quot;paint ideas%26quot;, decorating ideas, teen rooms,.....
Reply:I had a friend who did one wall in her room black, it did not look so good,
if it was me I would go with pink and white
but if your not really in to that
maybe a lavendar colour would be nice
Reply:My suggestion if you want to paint a wall a dark colour that your parents don%26#039;t love (such as black) and/or put designs on it, you should first cover it in dry-strippable wallpaper. (Use whatever is in the discount bin that week if it%26#039;s black. You know it%26#039;s going to take multiple coats anyway.) That way if your parents need to sell the house or you move to a different room or you grow up and move out, they can tear down the wallpaper and wash the wall, and the black paint and designs will be gone in a matter of minutes. (My parents have horror stories about trying to paint over that kind of stuff in one of their first apartments. I think they had to put up 10 coats or something crazy like that to fully cover a black tree design that my mother painted on the wall.)
Without actually seeing your room, I imagine that a night-sky blue wall with a white (And maybe glow in the dark?) moon and stars design on it could be a nice compromise if your parents won%26#039;t let you have black. The other walls could be white so the room wouldn%26#039;t seem too dark.
Reply:take some harmony-colourful colours. say like, u like purple. one side is dark purple, the other 2 sides is lighter purple, and another one side is darker purple, things like dat. the effect is great. then on the dark purple wall, u can put some light purple clock or book rack, and the light purple wall can put sumtin much darker, is it complicated? hmm. u noe wat i mean, right? good luck!
Reply:It sounds like you like the color black. Have you thought of using a tan color on your walls, and stencil a black design? It would bring a personal sense to the room, and you could accent and decorate with so many colors. (When you go to redecorate later, it wouldn%26#039;t be such a hassle, and your room will be cozy with the brown colors...) Black and khaki go great together, I%26#039;ve used it throughout my entire house!
